He added that some 960 employees have had their contracts extended to indefinite periods this year. Early next month, the company is to decide whether to extend contracts for 600 employees whose fixed period agreements expire on December 31.

Automobile Dacia, controlled by French Renault group, halted production between Nov. 20 - Dec. 7, because of the "brutal slump of car markets." The carmaker's sales dropped 8.9 percent in Romania in the first 10 months of 2008.

The plant produced 222,914 cars in 2007, it would have a total production of 310,000 units for this year.
