Caterpillar the largest earth moving instrument making company of the world has decided to go for massive layoffs - around 800 employees will be fired by the company. This is another setback to the ailing job market and industry of the USA. Caterpillar Layoffs

Aroun 814 production workers at an engine assembly plant in Mossville, Illinois., where volumes have plummeted due to lower demand for engines for on-highway trucks, Caterpillar machines and commercial applications.

the layoffs will begin on February 23, 2009.

Job cuts will also be there for majority of the temporary staff at the North carolina plant. Caterpillar notified the workers at the Clayton and Sanford plants on Thursday afternoon and said it is planning additional non-production days at both factories in 2009
