I appreciate the concern of the newsarticle which is more than Office Depot had for the Employees of the Maryland Stores. We were told on Tuesday, the 9th that this was our last day as Office Depot employees and on Wednesday we would be under Gordon Brothers liquidators. There was no compassion for the employees and we were not a second thought to them. Alternative jobs were not offered and all they wanted is for us to be gone. It is a shame that you give such hard and dedicated work to a company and this is the thanks you get. Just 1 of the 2,000. God is with me and I pray with the others affected. Remaining employees of Office Depot beware.....us today and you tomorrow they are heartless.

About 4 years ago management started all this cost savings and restructuring only to pocket themselves with big
bonuses, now they are really paying for there mistakes. Office Depot used to be a place for true office machines good service to help the business customer now its a place where you go for the cheapest printer and laptops that break down in 6 months. You stand in line like for ever waiting on one
cashier to ring you out and that is on top of waiting for over half an hour to get something from the back because there are no employees and the manager is on a 2 hours conference call. I was told that store could not afford to have more than 20 outs and that all possible effort even at the cost of not selling items to keep the store full because that item would cause the store to be out of that product. How are they going to make it beat me.

I work in an OD in Canada. We have been 'guaranteed' employement through March 6, but seveal at my location have had all their hours taken away. Not by OD, but by a decision by the Gordon Brothers to cut hours. Saves them money. We fully expect the GB to bring in their own people and force us out the door.
On the bright side: OD shares jumped up nicely once they announced the closures. Glad someone is happy.

On February 24th they just laid off another 1200 to 1500 middle management and I was one of them. I am not bitter but more of a heads up would have been nice. I guess I should have seen the writing on the wall.

I just lost one of my assistant managers today. I've been with the company for almost 4 years now and it just keeps going downhill. I am nothing but dissapointed in the OD. And it's just a wild guess but I bet Mr. Steve Odland will not only get to keep his job but he'll probably get a bonus for "saving" Office Depot money in payroll.

I am not an Office Depot employee but am related to one. (or shhould I say an "ex" employee.) To cut costs they are getting rid of the higher paid employees and keeping the lower wage earners. The reason these higher wage employees are paid the wage they make is because they have earned it with their hard work, loyalty and integrity. Office Depot is making a big mistake in letting these people go. By keeping the smaller wage earners you are also keeping the people who will not serve your corp. with the integrity it desreves. You will be left with the people who don't appreciate their jobs and don't respect the people who employ them. The ones Office Depot are letting go are the very ones who have made the store they were employed at the success that it must be if it is remaining open in the first place. A person would think the corp execs could figure that much out on their own without too much thinking. I guess they've never heard of the saying,"Don't bite the hand that feeds you". Once they've gotten rid of all the employees that have painstakingly made the business what it is, and are left with the "peons", they'll soon figure that out when their store winds up closing its doors for good when workers they've chosen to keep cannot pull their weight and the foundation the ones they've let go built, crumbles before their blind eyes! (Hindsight is 20/20! Too bad!)
