Pratt had already cut more than 100 blue-collar workers in Connecticut this year, as well as an undisclosed number of salaried workers nationwide. Whitlow said the latest reductions would help mitigate falling revenue. The latest cuts amount to about 1 percent of Pratt's global workforce of 38,000 and 2 percent of its Connecticut workforce of 12,000.

Many of Pratt's business lines have been affected by the recession, including the highly profitable work of servicing and repairing engines for commercial airlines, company spokeswoman Jennifer Whitlow said. U.S. airlines have been cutting capacity and grounding aircraft all year.
