Daimler Trucks Freightliner Layoffs Job Cut: fires 2000 employees

The company with the "Run Smart" punchline is no longer running smart, as far as the employees are concerned. The company is going for layoffs -this time its a vehicle company. The latest one to add to the list is, Daimler Trucks North America Freightliner, which has decided to fire around 2000 employees at Charlotte-area Freightliner plants. Freightliner  Layoffs

Around 2000 employees will be fired by the company.

Which location employees will be affected in Freightliner layoffs?
Mount Holly medium-duty truck manufacturing plant will fire 572 employees.
Gastonia truck parts and components plant will fire 275 employees
Freightliner's Cleveland heavy-duty truck plant in Rowan County will fire 1290 staff, because the second shift work will be discontinued.

When will the Freightliner layoffs happen?
No information is available about the exact dates, but it is learnt that the layoffs will start in march 2009.

What are the primary reasons of Freightliner layoffs?
Daimler Trucks North America said the cuts are due to the "continuing economic and industry downturn and a related sharp decline in truck orders."
