Primarily, they will be the non-permanent teaching staff who will be affected by the layoffs. Also, there will be other criteria in determining the layoffs - like The district will first look at 2,290 nonpermanent teachers who have the least seniority and who teach elementary school and secondary school English and math, according to a report prepared for the board. Layoffs may also happen for interns and provisional teachers, who have not passed their final exams in the subjects they teach.
