Lenovo Layoffs Job Cut: fires 2500 employees

After Dell Layoffs News, another computer maker is going for layoffs. All sectors are feeling the heat in the worst of its times and the tech sector companies are no exception to it. The latest one to add to the list is, Lenovo, which is the fourth largest computer maker, has decided to fire around 2500 employees globally and go ahead with its planned layoffs. Lenovo  Layoffs

How many employees may be fired in the Lenovo layoffs?
Around 2500 employees will be fired globally. That will include 250 job cuts in US at its Research Triangle Park. That will be a total of 11 percent of job cuts on a global basis.

Lenovo currently has about 650 employees at RTP facility.

The layoffs have started today, as per the email received by the employees from the top management.

The lenovo layoffs will mean that the company is closing down the Toronot based call center completely. So, though there will be job losses at RTP facility in US, some more may be hired for its call center transfer from Canada. That no. is expected to be 150 new hires.

The new guys will be in sales and tech support groups.

Worsening global financial situation, competition, lack of demand and mounting costs are some of the reasons quoted by the management to justify the layoffs.

Just a correction. In fact, the "Canada and US" call center offices are not located in Canada, so the dismissal will actually be in Brazil, where all these operations (order entry, warranties, callcenter, financial, billing, etc) are centered.
1/3 of the local workforce have already been dismissed.
