Plum Creek Layoffs Job Cut: fires 400 employees

Another company is going for layoffs -this time its a timber company. The latest one to add to the list is, Plum Creek, which is a timber company, has decided to fire around 400 employees. Plum Creek  Layoffs

How many employees may be fired in the Plum Creek layoffs?
Around 400 employees will be fired by the company. For details, 145 people will lose their jobs and another 221 employees will be affected by the temporary shutdowns.

When will the Plum Creek layoffs happen?
The layoffs have started on Thursday, the 7th of January 2009, making a bad start of new year for many employees.

What are the primary reasons of Plum Creek layoffs?
The company management is attributing the layoffs to the decline in the demand of wood articles and also a lot is dependent on the falling house or real estate market, which is continously witnessing a fall.

Which locations will Plum Creek Layoffs happen?
It is reported that four Plum Creek sawmills and one plant will be affected.
Ksanka sawmill in Fortine will close completely in March.
The Pablo Pine Board sawmill will cut production and 36 jobs.
The Columbia Falls Pine Board sawmill will temporarily shut down the rest of January, February and possibly into March. There will be around 35 job cuts at this plant.
The management has decided to keep the Evergreen sawmill because of its location, but will permanently shut down the Fortine sawmill.
